Job Description - Image-ide@s Researcher
IDEAS, www.ideas.wisconsin.edu, Wisconsin's premier educational web portal, is recruiting researchers for image-ide@s, our new online image source for K-12 and UW schools.
Background
We are responding to a state-wide need for free, public domain, high-quality photographs and images that relate to Wisconsin PK-16 curricula. Image-ide@s will be a reliable and searchable digital image database geared toward Wisconsin students and educators. Image-ide@s will allow users to search for photographs and other images by keyword or Wisconsin Model Academic Standard. We will focus on images that represent Wisconsin's culture, geography, history, economy and architecture.
Image-ideas is funded by the UW-Extension Division of Continuing Education, Outreach & E-Learning as well as the University of Wisconsin System.
Duties
Researchers will take original photographs and gather donated photographs and images from people within their local CESA area. These images will be evaluated for educational suitability and cataloged by keywords and standards through the image-ide@s web portal. The images will meet a rubric of specifications that include representing the local CESA area in cultural, geographic, historical, economic and architectural terms.
Researchers will be required to participate in training and evaluations.
Requirements
Researchers must:
- Attend a training in Madison.
- Have easy access to high-speed Internet for purposes of web-based training through WisLine Web: http://www.uwex.edu/ics/wlw/
- Have at least an intermediate expertise with image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Elements, FireWorks or similar tools. This is for the purpose of controlling image size and resolution.
- Be able to judge photographs and other images for compositional quality.
- Have the use of a good quality digital camera, 4 megapixels or better.
Compensation and Expenses:
Researchers will receive a stipend of $1500 for 100 images that have been cataloged, submitted and approved. Up to $50 will be available for travel expenses.
