Satellite Meteorology for Grades 7–12
Meteorology is an excellent topic to introduce middle and high school students to geoscience, physics, chemistry, and applied mathematics. Satellite Meteorology provides scientists and educators with exciting tools for investigation, inquiry, analysis, and stewardship. This Satellite Meteorology course was developed for middle and high school science classes. Modules were designed to serve as stand-alone lessons; however, a sequential approach to the material is encouraged.

Saturday Enrichment Program
The Saturday Enrichment Program provides a student-centered environment for 5th–8th graders. It allows them to explore a wide range of interests and new academic areas, and it empowers them to ask and learn about career options, interests, and choices. Courses include performance arts, photography, visual arts, limnology, veterinary medicine, science, and more. Students utilize state-of-the-art campus resources and interact with UW–Madison faculty, staff, and community professionals in this pre-college program sponsored by the School of Education. The program has open enrollment with course registrations on a first-come, first-served basis.

School of Library and Information Studies Continuing Education Services
Continuing Education Services at UW–Madison’s School of Library and Information Studies offers a variety of high-quality continuing education courses, conferences, and workshops for librarians. Many of these enjoyable programs may appeal to traditional educators, as well as librarians. Topics include children’s literature, young adult literature, technical skills, children’s programming, puppetry, Spanish language, management skills, and reference services. Courses are offered both online and, in the summer months, in-person and range from one to 12 weeks in length. The course schedule changes each semester and during the summer. It is possible to earn continuing education credits for all programs.

School of Medicine and Public Health Research Apprentice Program (RAP)
This seven-week summer program is designed to provide research experiences for a diverse group of high school students who are rising juniors and seniors from the Dane County area, and rising seniors from the PEOPLE Program. In addition to the research apprenticeship where students work with faculty and research scientists, students participate in academic enrichment activities that include mathematics, computer science, and writing workshops; field trips to medical and research centers, and museums; career information from presentations by physicians, research scientists, as well as by graduate and medical school students; and financial aid and college preparation workshops.

School of Music Community Outreach
UW–Madison offers a wide variety of summer programs for music educators, private teachers, performers, and conductors. These programs provide opportunities for both professional development and non-vocational pursuits, with university credit and CEUs available. The school sponsors the Madison Early Music Festival and Workshop, a study abroad program for teachers in the arts, an educational video series, and distance learning opportunities. In addition, it offers a large array of non-credit evening music classes for adult learners, including music appreciation, fundamentals/theory, composition, improvisation, performance ensembles, and beginning and intermediate classes in piano, voice, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, and various ethnic instrument and vocal traditions.

School of Pharmacy Open House for High School Students
This annual spring open house is designed for Wisconsin high school juniors and seniors who are considering a career in pharmacy or pharmacology/toxicology, their parents or guests, and high school guidance counselors and science teachers. The full-day program presents an overview of pre-School of Pharmacy curriculum and admissions requirements, the curriculum of the two degree programs offered, career options, financial aid information, and a variety of afternoon breakout sessions. A tour of the School of Pharmacy is included, and there are opportunities to meet with faculty, academic advisors, and students. Advance registration is necessary and a registration fee is required.

Schrieber Observatory (UW-Superior)
UW-Superior's Schrieber Observatory offers public viewing on Friday nights. Stargazing begins at 8:00 PM (later in summer) provided the sky is at least 75% clear and the temperature is above 5 degrees. Come peer into the heavens through our 12-inch optical telescope! Dress for the weather.

Science Education Scholars (SES)
The Science Education Scholars Program offers summer research experiences to teams of School of Education students and classroom teachers. The program is coordinated by UW–Madison's Center for Biology Education; the research is guided by UW–Madison scientists. Participants build on the research experience by creating curriculum modules and activities for classroom use. Science Expeditions
This annual campus open house welcomes families and learners of all ages to experience science as exploring the unknown. Usually held on the first Saturday in April, Science Expeditions gives participants a chance to experience science first hand and to talk about their ideas and interests with researchers and outreach specialists. Science Expeditions also is a quick way to get a feel for the wide range of science outreach resources on campus, including programs that work with partners in communities across the state, as well as venues such as the Geology Museum, the Ingersoll Physics Museum, the Botany Gardens, and the BioTrek Outreach Program, all of which welcome people to campus all year round. Details about the event are posted on the "Science on Campus" Web site in early spring.

Science is Fun in the Lab of Shakhashiri
Bassam Shakhashiri, a UW–Madison professor in the Department of Chemistry and director of the Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy, shows kids and adults that science is fun! He thrills audiences with his sell-out science shows, demonstrations, home experiments, videos, and books. The Web site has links to different science-related demonstrations and activities. Science-is-Fun student presentations are also offered throughout the academic year.

Scout Report
The Scout Report is the flagship publication of the Internet Scout Project and has been published every Friday both on the Web and by e-mail since 1994. The Scout Report provides a fast, convenient way for academics, researchers, librarians, and the K–12 community to stay informed of valuable resources on the Internet. Scout's team of librarians and subject matter experts select, research, and annotate 20–25 resources every week from a wide variety of subject areas in both the sciences and the humanities. The Scout Report is one of the Internet's oldest and most respected publications and reaches an audience of more than 250,000 every week.

Sigma Alpha Ag in the Classroom
During this 4–6 week school program, members of the Sigma Alpha Agricultural Service Sorority present "Fun on the Farm." The program highlights many different areas of agriculture, especially agriculture specific to Wisconsin. Examples of lessons include animals, plants, dairy products, and Wisconsin specialty products such as cranberries. Each lesson has a hands-on activity, including many that can be taken home with the student. Sigma Alpha usually coordinates this program at 1–3 schools per year, as time and resources are limited. Those interested should contact Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority through its mailing address.

Soccer Camps (UW-Parkside)
UW-Parkside offers soccer camps for both boys and girls ages 4-5 and 6-14. Campers can select one or two week-long sessions. A discount is available for those who sign up for both weeks.

Social Justice Conference
This annual spring conference, sponsored by the Department of Counseling Psychology, aims to explore the issue of social justice within the practice of mental health counseling. The conference gathers people who are engaged in clinical practice, counselor educator training, and culturally relevant research to discuss how to integrate issues related to context transformation within clinical practice.

Spanish for Teachers and Others
The UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies offers Spanish language classes for beginners through professionals, as well as programs in Spanish literature, culture, civilization, and business. It also offers travel programs to Latino countries. Many classes provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which can aid professional growth.

Spanish for Youth
Co-sponsored by the Division of Continuing Studies and the Monroe Street Branch of the Madison Public Library, this program helps children ages 4–10 learn Spanish through songs, games, pictures, conversations, practice exercises, and short readings. Currently two classes are offered: Spanish for Beginners (ages 4–8), and Advanced Spanish for Children (ages 5–10).

State of Wisconsin Collection
The State of Wisconsin Collection brings together, in digital form, two categories of primary and secondary materials: writings about the state of Wisconsin and unique or valuable materials that relate to its history and ongoing development. The collection includes published material as well as archival materials. The materials were digitized from a variety of formats including books, manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs, maps and other resources deemed important to the study and teaching of the state of Wisconsin. The collection is published by the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections Center.

Students Participating in Chemical Education (SPICE)
The Department of Chemistry's Institute for Chemical Education at UW-Madison sponsors SPICE, an outreach program designed to encourage children's interest in science and chemistry. SPICE volunteers present a series of chemical demonstrations based on a common theme, stimulating enthusiasm and excitement in the audience. SPICE volunteers show science as an interesting, exciting, and integral part of society.

Summer Institute on Education and Work
The annual Summer Institute on Education and Work offers workshops that focus on developing knowledge and skills in one or more of the 12 Career Development Facilitator (CDF) competencies. The institute is an ideal way to gain professional development and continuing education credit in a relaxed, informal setting on the UW–Madison campus. While designed specifically for certified CDFs and CDF instructors, the workshops are open to anyone who works in career development or education for work. The institute is hosted by the Center on Education and Work at the UW-Madison School of Education.

Summer Music Clinic
The UW–Madison School of Music clinics feature performance and skill-building classes in music, band, orchestra, choir, musical theater, and jazz ensemble. The classes are augmented by theory, history, and other music-related class choices. The students participate in concert organizations, and classes are designed to help students polish both their ensemble and individual performance skills. Classes provide exposure to a variety of musical styles and ideas. Recreational and evening activities round out the day and provide a balanced and enjoyable camp experience. Registrants completing 11th grade in Wisconsin and attending the Senior Music Clinic are eligible to compete for one of 10 UW–Madison four-year scholarships. The Web site provides details on applications and deadlines. Requirements: Junior Session: students completing grades 6–8; Senior Session: students completing grades 9–12.

Summer Science Institute (SSI)
Sponsored by the Center for Biology Education, SSI offers a seven-week residential program to high-potential minority and underserved high school students. Students gain an understanding of the nature, application, and ethics of biological research by designing and implementing a research project. Requirements: Participants must be high-potential minority and underserved high school students. All costs are covered, including room, board, books, and all materials.

System-Wide Change for All Learners and Educators (SCALE)
SCALE is a national network of more than 50 working groups of educators and researchers focused on improving mathematics and science teaching and learning in grades PreK through 12. Funded in the 2002 Math and Science Partnership (MSP) competition, this comprehensive project currently includes four major urban school districts (Denver Public Schools, Los Angeles Unified School District, Madison Metropolitan School District, and Providence (RI) Public Schools), and three universities (University of Wisconsin–Madison, California State University, and Dominguez Hills and Northridge). The project is housed in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. Resources on the SCALE Web site include research papers and Science Immersion Unit design concepts.
