ide@s portal website privacy policy

Welcome to ide@s and thank you for reading our Privacy Policy.

While we automatically collect information about your computer and internet request, we do not collect any personal information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide the information. We will not sell, rent, loan or share your personal information to anyone.

This policy applies to only the ide@s Portal Website. Other web sites that are linked to ide@s have different and separate privacy policies.

Protecting the privacy of our Web site visitors is very important to ide@s. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we want to make sure you are informed of the ways in which we may and may not use the information you transmit to us when you visit ide@s.

This privacy policy covers three categories and can change without notice:

(1) Information that is collected automatically

  1. The Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer you use to access our Web site. The IP address is a number that uniquely identifies your computer on the Internet. Without this number, our servers would not know where to send back the information you are requesting.
  2. The date and time you "hit" each page on our site.
  3. The page you are requesting.
  4. The Web browser and computer operating system you are using to access our site.
  5. The address of the site or page you came from to our site.

These data do not contain any personally identifiable information and will be used for purposes of analyzing Web site traffic and making improvements for visitors to ide@s.

(2) Information you send to us
We will not collect personally identifiable information from you, other than what you supply to us on a voluntary basis. To make use of certain features on ide@s you need to register and to provide some information as part of the registration process. The information you supply helps us offer you more personalized features, tailoring our site to your interests and making it more useful to you.

If you choose to send us e-mail or fill out a Web-based form, that information is stored in an employee's e-mail or in an on-line database. We use that information to respond to your request or to provide interaction on our Web site. We do not use any of the information you send us for commercial marketing purposes. However, because ide@s is associated with a state institution, we are subject to Wisconsin Open Records Law. We may be obligated to make our records available if an appropriate open records request is submitted.

Supplying such information is entirely voluntary. ide@s will not knowingly accept personally identifiable information from visitors under the age of 18 who have not obtained permission from their parents or guardians.

Some of the areas of the site in which we collect such information, the information collected and the purpose for collecting that information are described below:

Subscription to electronic newsletters
ide@s offers free electronic newsletters to members. These newsletters include new resources, information, updates and other information of interest to ide@s users and supporters. To subscribe, you must provide your e-mail address. To remove yourself from the mailing list, click on the "contact us" link on the bottom of any page and request that you be removed from this mailing list.

Online Surveys
ide@s occasionally conducts surveys with the option of participating through ide@s. Apart from information you provide, survey responses are not correlated to any personally identifying information and are used in aggregate form to help us tailor ide@s online services.

Online feedback
To send us e-mail through the feedback page, you must enter a name and e-mail address, and of course, your comments. This information is used to respond to your comments. It may also used in aggregate form for statistical purposes.

Online purchases and security
If ide@s begins purchase opportunities in the future, this segment of the Privacy Policy will be updated.

Use of Cookies
To help make our sites more responsive to the needs of our visitors, we invoke a standard feature found in browser software, called a "cookie," to assign each visitor a unique, random number, a sort of anonymous user ID that resides on your computer. The cookie doesn't actually identify the visitor, just the computer that a visitor uses to access our site. Unless you voluntarily identify yourself (through registration, for example), we won't know who you are, even if we assign a cookie to your computer. A cookie can't read data stored on your computer.

We use cookies to help us tailor our site to your needs and to deliver a better, more personalized service. We may also use cookies to track the pages on our site visited by our users. We can build a better site if we know which pages our users are visiting and how often.

You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. You do not need to have cookies enabled to use ide@s as a guest. However, some features of our site will not work properly if you refuse cookies such as the ide@s members' features.

(3) Policies for Children

We comply with the Federal Trade Commission 1998 Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) (http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm) ide@s is not intended for child use although we acknowledge that certain links from ide@s may be used with students by teachers and adult educators. It is the intention of IDEAS that these sites will only be used with students after the educator has reviewed the sites and approved them for their students' use. ide@s cannot accept any responsibility nor any liability for information or policies contained on these sites.

ide@s will not knowingly accept personally identifiable information from visitors under the age of 18. If a child sends us an e-mail with a question or comment, we will respond using his or her e-mail address and will not store it for future communications.
